Beauty| Crush Groove Cosmetics

July 20, 2009 · 1 Comment

I don’t think there is a cosmetic company that truly understands the meaning of “organic” or “natural” like Crush Groove Cosmetics. Makeup artist and CGC founder, Jenique Bell understands from first-hand experience the positive benefits organic skin care and makeup. Battling severe skin conditions, eczema, psoriasis and acne, Jenique discovered that it not only what we put in our bodies but also what we put on our faces and began to adopt a holistic lifestyle. As a result, Jenique developed makeup and skin care products made with only the best organic and natural products. Crush Grove Cosmetics is Jenique’s green magic to beautiful skin and she’s generously sharing it with us. I recommend trying the Remix Serum. It’s a fantastic moisturizer which leaves your face feeling comfortable and incredibly smooth.

P.S. It’s definitely worth taking advantage of the Petite and Grande Sample Packs, $15 to $25, which is perfect for testing each makeup product and trying the different shades available.

Fashion| Donna Karan Fall 2009 RTW

July 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

There is nothing extravagant, dramatic, bold or daring about Donna Karan’s Fall 2009 RTW collection, but its versatility, classic colors and fur details (I’m a fur lover—sorry PETA), make this collection everything I want my wardrobe to be – appealing, classic and elegant.

Beauty| Laura Mercier 2009 Fresco Collection

July 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s understandable why Laura Mercier decided to name its collection Fresco, the colors, and ultimate look, are as fresh as the fresco paintings in the Renaissance era. What I adore most about Laura Mercier’s Fresco Collection is it’s adaptability with this summer’s hottest trends – florals, neutral tones and bright colors.

Beauty Guide to Looking Like a Socialite

July 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We may not have wealthy parents, million-dollar trust funds, and an inheritance to a million-dollar corporation, but that doesn’t mean we can’t at least achieve the look for a beautiful, out-going, socialite.

The Perfect Complexion:

One commonality among famous socialites is a healthy, radiant-looking complexion; and so, creating the perfect canvas is extremely important before applying color. However, a healthy, well-balanced diet is also an important factor for achieving radiant skin (i.e. drinking plenty of water and eating foods that are rich in vitamins and anti-oxidants as well as help aid in detoxification). When creating a perfect canvas, prepping your face with primer and concealing any blemishes are important. I prefer using Sonya’s Color Concealer Wheel, which has a concealer for every type of blemish in one handy palette.

My Picks:

1 Sonya Color Concealer Wheel

2 Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

3 Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder Foundation

4 Nars Blush in Orgasm or Torrid

Voluptuous Lashes

Whether using false lashes and thickening mascara voluminous lashes are a staple for socialites. If you’re like me and afraid of placing false lashes on yourself, you can create the look of full lashes using a liquid eyeliner and thickening mascara. I find using a gel eyeliner from MAC and creating a thin line as close to the lash line as possible helps to create the illusion of full lashes even without mascara. And don’t forget to frame your beautiful lashes with well-groomed brows and a brow highlighter.

My Picks:

5 Dior Show Mascara in Black

6 MAC Fluidline in BlackTrack

7 Anastasia Brow Ex-press

Luscious Lips

I love Ivanka Trumps naturally full lips; and like many socialites, she knows how to enhance her lips using subtle sheen and color, staying away from bold, trendy colors. After all, they’re socialites not rockstars.

My Picks:

8 Nars Lip Gloss in Stella

9 Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Mulberry

Well-Manicured Nails

With or without polish, no socialite leaves the house without neatly groomed nails. If you can’t afford weekly visits to a nail salon, there are many do-it-yourself nail kits and manicure guides for you to take advantage of. Many socialites prefer the sheer nail polish look, but the color doesn’t matter as long as it’s not the over-the-top nail designs seen on artificial tips. Keeping nails plain and simple is best.

My Picks:

10 Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer in Angel Eyes

11 Lippmann Collection Nail Lacquer in Fever

12 OPI Nail Lacquer in Sweet Heart

Soft Manageable Mane

Long, mid-length, or short, every socialite’s hair is soft, natural, and touchable. Therefore, forgo using styling products that leave the hair stiff, and make sure to deep condition you hair every week to help maintain manageability, softness, and prevent dryness due to heat styling.

My Picks:

13 Kerastase Masquintense

14 Dr. Hauschka Neem Hair Lotion

15 Jonathan Product Finish Hold, Firm Hold Hair Spray
